Finding a good plumber after you move to a new area can be challenging especially if you don’t know anyone there. Here are a few things you can try. In Toronto, plumbers are relatively easy to find using this method.

The Yellow Pages

Let your fingers do the walking, as the old slogan goes. It’s a good place to start because at least if a company is willing to spend money to advertise every month, you know they are not going to be ‘fly by nighters’. If there are lots of listings narrow your search down to those that are closest to where you live. That may save on a service call in future. Unfortunately, the Yellow Pages will just give you a few highlights but not many details.

Ads In The Newspaper

Not every company will have an ad in the paper. And actually if there is a smaller regional newspaper, even a free one, this may be a better place to look, as companies located in that area will be more likely the ones to run ads.

 

Ask People

Once you get to know a few people either in your neighbourhood or at work, you could make a point of asking them for a referral. Be clear that you only want a name of someone they’ve personally dealt with.

Internet Searches

Most plumbing contractors today know the importance of having a website. And with Google showing local listings when you search with the name of a city, you’ll be sure to see listings for those companies that at least have a good website. Of course, there are no guarantees that a nice website means a reliable company, but it’s at least in their favour.
